MY FOCUS TIP of the DAY
Do you want to organically grow your account, but you’re not sure how?
Here’s what I’ve been studying to help myself with the same issue!

A goal of “400 followers in a month” is an OUTPUT GOAL.
1 YT video a week or a blog post a day is an INPUT GOAL.
ONE of these you CAN control, one of these you CANNOT.
You can’t control the message they receive. You only control the message you put out.
🫢 You’ve already told yourself a story about me.

It’s okay, I don’t mind. But… what is it?!
Seth Godin states:
People tell themselves a story about you, even if you don’t want them to.
Anything about you gives an impression.
From the car you drive (or don’t) to the “cut of your jib”.
No matter what…
People tell themselves a story.
(About you or themselves.)
“I don’t want that car! I’d never be caught dead in a SUV!”
“I bet she drives that car because she’s trying to look rich.”
“I can’t wait to get my new car! I’m going to look like such a badass on the road.”
“Ugh, a dork in a Hummer… You just want attention.”
You don’t get to choose what story people hear*, but you control what story you get to tell.
(*It’s the story people tell themselves that others cannot control.)
If we see ourselves in someone else, it’s a different story.

Think about where fictional stories fall into this.
Seth wants us to:
Be authentic throughout all points of contact.
Our website, our DM’s and comments, the story, our content, the product or service…
All of it HAS to have an overarching, breathing and coherent story.
It’s impossible to know which point of contact is going to leave,
what impression,
on whom,
at what time.
Your story is a symphony, not a note.
Let’s have some FUN…

Have you ever noticed how particular brands and businesses beautifully innovate the story they tell?
Storytelling is an art.
Especially when paired with the mediums we choose for our stories to come to life.
Live performances, social media, drawing, novels, short stories, movies, TV, YouTube, audio, etc.
SO,
Where does authenticity fit in something like “Star Wars” or a fictional TV show?
IS there authenticity?
Here’s a question!
Can we be “authentic” with a fictional story or performance?
Yes!
I’ve noticed:
Authenticity also =
Creating an engaging, remarkable and consistent experience.
I call it “Handshaking.”

Handshaking =
Playing into a story with consistent commitment, it becomes… real.
It becomes AUTHENTIC, when it’s easy to suspend disbelief.
When we’re "INTO IT.”
It’s what Rick Rubin loves so much about wrestling.
Wrestling is NOT boxing or MMA, it’s
theatre. It’s a play.
It has storylines involving it’s many characters.
It’s ballet. It’s a nice night out at the movies, or suspending disbelief to watch TV.
They’re ALL IN on THE PERFORMANCE.
(And most of us are in on it, too.)
Authenticity is not necessarily being kind or polite or showing your face.
That WILL help, but if it’s not who you are…
There are plenty of businesses thriving off of handshaking:
“HOW RUDE!”

A bar and restaurant chain in the US known for its intentional employment of an obnoxious staff who "purposely provide bad service".
“What’s this candle called?”

Their FB description: “THESE ARE THE BEST CANDLES AND IF YOU DON’T REALIZE THAT THAN YOU’RE A REAL PIECE OF SH*T.”

It gets the people going.

The names are JUST the beginning. The customer service is like Dick’s, purposefully obnoxious.
Faceless
Artists
Writers and Ghostwriters.
YouTube Channels
VTubers and more!
Do we need to show our face?
It’s easier to connect to, sure.
But plenty of people don’t or didn’t start showing their face.
The Weeknd started faceless himself and has written songs for other artists.
He was inspired by faceless artists like Daft Punk and The Gorillaz.
Bruno Mars, Prince and Ed Sheeran have also ghostwritten hits.
Donald Glover, Chris Rock, Larry David, and John Mulaney started out as writers before being in front of the big screen.
Here’s 2 faceless channels and a VTuber on YouTube.
Execute the best version you can, that you have access to.
Focus in Storytelling
"…They mistakenly think that for the audience to understand anything, they have to be told everything.
That's like being asked the time and responding with complete instructions for building a clock.
The remedy is painfully apparent: Focus.
Separate the wheat from the chaff.
Give the audience only what they need to know."
Alex Hormozi + Focus.
Dickie Bush references Alex’s 1,1,1 framework in his podcast with Callum Johnson. (Link is timestamped)
It’s about ghostwriting and his start as a digital writer.
My Cousin Vinnie.
He repairs cars for a big name company in the automotive industry.
He gets paid per project, not by the amount of hours.
For example:
He takes a request for 90 dollars, which usually takes 4 hours.
He completes it in 2.5, and still makes 90 dollars.
Until you have 100,000 saved, you shouldn’t think about anything except learning how to make more money, or build skills that help you make more money.
What am I focusing on?
